Songs come together in many ways – at least that’s what I’m told. I’ve spent a lot of time writing, but not too much writing songs. On our web site, there’s a little window into how we started. (https://sitlookdrink.com/about.html) “A few friends got together one weekend in the Berkshires and shared a hot fire, some cold drinks and a beautiful view of Onota Lake. When they came inside an old saying turned into a new song that they wanted to share.” That seems so nice and simple…and easy. In real time, the saying has been around for about 15+ years. Over time, I had written a few verses – but not a single bit of music. However, my buddy is a real musician with records recorded and songs written. After several beers and a pot of way too spicy Gumbo, we left the fire and the lake and headed back to the house. “Do you want to write a song” he said? “That would be awesome, when do you want to do it?” “Right now.” After noodling on the words, we came up with an initial draft and he strummed away on his guitar and in a very short time had a melody. “So, are you ready to sing it,” he said? Now, I love to sing – but most people don’t like to listen. After a couple of nudges (and a few more beers), we created a brand, new song. We even captured the second attempt on an iPhone for posterity. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave us a start….and a chance to make it better.
